What are Microgreens?

Microgreens are considered “superfoods” – foods containing health promoting or disease preventing properties beyond normal nutritional values.  These super-food seedlings are naturally high in quality protein, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, enzymes, and anti-oxidants, and have few calories and no cholesterol.  Microgreens are practically free of fat and cholesterol, low in carbohydrates and sodium, contain roughly 8-38 calories per cup and depending on the variety, are packed with Vitamin’s A, C, E, and K.  Additionally, early research is suggesting that microgreens can have up to 40 times the nutrients to that of their mature “big vegetable” counterparts.

How do I use Microgreens?
Aim to include your microgreens at every meal to add flavor and nutrition.

  • Garnish them on salads, sandwiches, soups, pizza, omelets, baked potatoes, pasta, fish, meats, etc.!
  • Include them in your smoothies!
  • Do not cook your microgreens, they are meant to be eaten as a raw vegetable.

How do I care for & cut my Microgreens?
Your microgreens will easily live for 1-2 weeks if cared for properly. Of course you should be eating them every day.

  • Place on your kitchen counter or table so they get indirect sunlight during the day and darkness at night. They do not need to be refrigerated while alive & in the container.
  • The greens should be watered once a day with minimal water, so as not to sit in standing water
  • The bottom of the container has holes for drainage; cut off the cover and place it under to use as a bottom tray for watering. Always water from the bottom/their pad.
  • Cut and use/eat as you need.
  • Cut your greens approx. ¼ inch above the coconut coir (pad).
  • You will notice white root "hairs" at the base of your greens, they are a sign of a healthy plant.
  • Any cut greens not consumed should be refrigerated.
Our trays are plant based and compostable.
